This project takes us inside the Custody Suite of Sutton Coldfield Police Station and gives us an insight into the practices of an institution that is granted powers to detain those who are suspected of breaking the law. The photographs depict the purposely-built facility that has been meticulously designed in in every aspect. The colours of the walls have been chosen to express an institutional environment. Each room has been intentionally fit with security cameras and alarms for the safety of employees. Each area of the Custody Suite is titled and organised as part of a coherent system. These are all aspects of the judicial system. The images aim to reflect on the station’s now decommissioned Custody Suite that was once the environment that helped officers maintain law and order. Now empty, all that is left are rooms designed by the correctional system and evidence of use from both detainees and officers.
